As outlined in the Computer Refresh Protocol, Cabrillo has a Technology Refresh Program for eligible faculty and staff.
Standard Computer Setup - for permanent, full-time, faculty/staff
Cabrillo utilizes a flexible docking station setup for staff and faculty, allowing for a single device per user to be used both on campus and remotely.
- Components:
- Standard setup: Windows laptop, 24” monitor, keyboard, mouse and docking station (see specific details below under “Standard Laptop Setup Provided by IT”).
- Most existing monitors and USB keyboards/mice can also be used with docking stations.
- Usage:
- The docking station is set up on campus with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- The laptop connects to the docking station for on-campus use and simply disconnects for remote work.
- Funding (per the Computer Refresh Protocol):
- Whenever possible, the standard setup will be provided by the corresponding Technology Refresh Program (Faculty or Staff).
- If none available, the requesting department will be responsible for funding the purchase of equipment and/or any upgrades to the hardware being requested (additional RAM, Mac hardware, etc.)
Standard Shared Computer Setup - for Part-Time Faculty/Staff
Windows desktop computers are utilized for "pool" devices to be shared amongst several employees.
- Components:
- Standard setup: Windows desktop, 24” monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- Shared desktops are “frozen” i.e. local data is stored temporarily during the session. Upon restart, all local data is removed and the computer is returned to a fresh state.
- Funding:
- Whenever possible, the standard setup will be provided by the corresponding Technology Refresh Program (Faculty or Staff) per the Computer Refresh Protocol guidelines.
- If none available, the requesting department will be responsible for funding the purchase of equipment.
Standard Laptop Setup Provided by IT
Current standard setup is as follows*:
- Dell Precision 3590 laptop: 15” display, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM
- Dell Pro Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock SD25TB4
- Dell 24" monitor
- Dell optical USB wired mouse
- Dell USB keyboard
*Mac laptops/desktops may also be requested, but the difference in cost must typically be approved and covered by the requesting department.
Process
- To request a refresh setup for full time faculty or staff, please submit the Technology Refresh Request Form. Note: for faculty requesting a Mac, please utilize this Faculty Request form to submit justification for approval.
- Once processed, the end-user will be contacted via an IT Support Request ticket opened on their behalf. End-user should respond promptly to any correspondence or inquiries directly in the ticket promptly to avoid any delays.
- If further information is needed or if there are any issues, the end-user will be contacted via email.
