Connecting to VPN

Please Note: If you previously had VPN access but have not yet gone through the new Security Assessment process, please see the steps outlined in the Requesting Access to the VPN KB article in order to have VPN access reinstated. 

Tips

  • Currently, VPN will only be available utilizing off-campus networks. Campus wi-fi will not allow you to connect to VPN. 
  • If you have any issues connecting to your drives via VPN, please restart your computer and try again.  
  • Remote desktop is currently not accessible (please see Remote Desktop section below).

Remote Desktop
Many users were in the habit of connecting to VPN and then utilizing Remote Desktop (RDP) to get into a computer on campus. Please note, RDP is not currently accessible with VPN, however, it should no longer be necessary.  

If you were previously using Remote Desktop to.....

  • Access files on a campus computer --> IT recommends you move your files to shared or network drives. It is best practice to not save files locally to any machine because if a machine were to fail, files would not be recoverable.
  • Access software installed on your campus machine but not installed on your remote machine --> please submit an IT Support Request to inquire about having the software installed on your remote machine. 
  • Access Colleague --> connect to VPN and access Colleague directly here.

How to Connect to VPN

  1. Connect to your local WiFi network. 

  2. Double-click on the 1 VPN icon and the following window will appear:

  3. Ensure it says “vpn.cabrillo.edu” and click “Connect”.

  4. The Okta login will pop up. Please log in with your person@cabrillo.edu credentials.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  5. You will use one of your factors to authenticate.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  6. You're all set!
