Backup Zoom Recordings to YouTube

October 1st, 2025, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office will (via TechConnect) begin enforcing a new policy to address the rapid growth and cost of Zoom recording storage.  On October 1st, all Zoom recordings created before July 31, 2024 will be deleted from user accounts, and new recordings will only be saved for one year.  Deleted recordings will be stored in the Zoom “trash” folder for 30 days, during which time they can be retrieved.  However, after this grace period, recordings will be permanently removed and inaccessible.

To save and share recordings for longer than one year, the Cabrillo IT Department recommends using our Google Workspace YouTube platform.  It is free and has no upload limit unlike our Google Drive.  If you choose to backup to YouTube you can also make the videos private, which also allows for sharing with a specified user group, or unlisted, which makes them available to anyone with the link.
